Introduction to Driver Rehabilitation

This two-day course is ideal for those new to the field of driver rehabilitation. The skills and knowledge needed to establish an adaptive driving program or become a new staff member for an established program will be discussed and shared. Topics include: Program Development, Behind the Wheel Training Techniques,Introduction to Adaptive Driving Equipment, Program Documentation. The course will also discuss collaboration with key partners, health care professionals and family.

Also discussed will be collaboration with mobility equipment dealers, family and medical team members.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Leah Belle, OTR/L, CDI, CDRS
Leah Belle is an Occupational Therapist and Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS). She has 27 years of rehabilitation experience, with 14 of those years in the field of Driver Rehabilitation. She is an active member of the Georgia / South Carolina Chapter of ADED and has served as Chapter President for several years. On an ADED national level, Leah served as a committee member developing the Fundamentals of Driver Rehabilitation Course and as a member of the Research and the Publications Committees. She is currently the chair of ADED’s Education Committee. For the past 6 years, Leah has been involved in research concerning older drivers as a member of a collaborative team that includes Roger C. Peace Rehabilitation Hospital and Clemson University.

Nathalie Drouin, OTR/L, CDI, DRS
An Occupational Therapist for 16 years, Nathalie Drouin brings a wide range of experience to the field including
acute care, pediatrics and geriatrics. For the past 6 years, she has worked in an outpatient setting while gaining almost 3
years’ experience in the area of Driver Rehabilitation. Roger C. Peace Rehabilitation Hospital and Clemson University
have an established collaborative evidenced-based research effort in which Nathalie has been heavily involved in for
the past 4 years. She is active with ADED nationally and has served as a committee member in developing the
Fundamentals of Driver Rehabilitation course. Nathalie has presented twice at the ADED National Conference.
